National Service Scheme

The NSS unit  of Jawaharlal Darda Institute of Engineering & Technology, Yavatmal is conducting various social activities such as Total Literacy, Health awareness, Sanitation & Cleanliness, Sustainable Development, Environment Enrichment, Disaster management, AIDS Education & Prevention, Blood Donation, etc.


The overall objectives of our NSS is personality development of the students through community service.

To list a few

  • Identify the needs and problems of the community and involve them in problem solving process
  • Acquire leadership qualities and democratic attitude
  • Develop capacity to meet emergencies and disasters
  • Practice National Integration and Social Harmony


NSS Symbol

The NSS symbol is based on the "Rath Wheel" of the Konark Sun Temple of Orissa. The giant wheel portrays the cycles of creation, preservation and release and signifies the movement in life across time and space. The design of the symbol, a simplified form of Sun Chariot Wheel primarily depicts movement. The wheel signifies the progressive cycle of life. It also stands for dynamism and progressive outlook of youth.

NSS Unit & Program Officer

The  NSS Unit consists of 150 student volunteers and is guided by Program Officer Ms. P.D.Pawar, Assistant Professor, Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering Department. The Program Officer is expected to motivate the student youth to understand the values and philosophy of NSS. The overall functions of Program Officer are to help the students to plan, implement and evaluate the activities of NSS under his/her charge and give proper guidance and directions to the student volunteers.

NSS Student Volunteers

Any student enrolled as a NSS volunteer, as per NSS Manual should put in atleast 240 hours of useful social work in a continuous period of two years (i.e. 120 hours per year). A work diary is to be maintained by each NSS volunteer, which will help him/her in the assessment in his/her performance. Such volunteer is eligible to get NSS Service Certificate from the colleges. The Service Certificate given in the NSS Manual should be strictly adhered.

Activities of NSS Volunteers and Adoption of Village

The Activities under NSS are two-fold, viz. i) Regular activities, which are undertaken during the working days of the semester, and ii) Special Camping activities for 7 days duration in the adopted village/urban slum during vacation. Each NSS unit in the college is expected to adopt a near by village/slum and work for its allround development. Regular activities and special campus should preferably be organised in the adopted village/rural unit/slum for this purpose.

Under this, students undertake various Programs in the adopted villages, College Campuses and urban slums during weekends or after college hours.

We are proud to note that until this academic year, the NSS units of our institution have conducted the Mega and highly useful “Blood Donation Camps”.
Our NSS units have been creating records in mobilizing blood donors in our students.

A one day workshop on Yoga was conducted in the college campus  for the staff and students. Mr. Satish Upre, of Patanjali Yogpeeth was invited as an expert for the program which was  inaugurated by the  Principal Dr.Avinash Kolhatkar.

 Health Awarness Program

‘Prevention is better than cure’, goes the old adage, signifying the importance of maintaining a balanced life which prevents the onset of medical problems. In order to instill the importance of teenage and old beliefs in the minds of the young girl students, the National Service Scheme Unit (NSS) and the Women’s Grievance Cell (WGC) of Jawaharlal Darda Institute of Engineering and Technology, Yavatmal organized a Health Awareness Program for the girl students on the occasion of International Balika Day”. The session was conducted by the Gynecologists, Dr. Girish Mane &  Dr. Vrushali  Mane and the Principal of the Institute, Dr. Avinash Kolhatkar was present as the Chairman for the Program. The session covered a variety of topics like adolescence, menstrual cycle, health, nutrition and dietary inputs to ensure that appropriate actions are taken to prevent infections. They also guided the students about maintenance of hygiene during periods, handling oneself carefully at this time, proper knowledge of the changes that occur to the body during this period, anemia-it’s causes and how to avoid it, importance of Iron and Folic acid tablet etc was also discussed with the girls. About 200 students participated in this Program

Voting Awareness Program conducted  n  the Institute in collaboration with NSS cell, SGBAU, Amravati attented by the NSS District Coordinators, NSS Regional Coordinators and  the Program Officers of all NSS Unit of Yavatmal District.

Tree Plantation Program organized by NSS Unit  on the occasion of Teachers day  in collaboration with IETE Subcenter, Yavatmal and ETA Club of EXTC Depatment.

Blood Donation Camp

Blood Donation Camp

Blood Donation Camp of the NSS unit was conducted  associated with the Doctors Team from Shri Vasantrao Naik medical college, Yavatmal and 238 units of blood was collected to District Govt. Hospital’s blood bank.  A number of girls came forward to donate blood. Most of them were first time donors also. The staff members from the institute also participated in the camp.

Campus Clining Program

Swachbharath  Cleaning The campus and premises were needed due to the outset of Monsoon. As part of the swachbharath mission it was decided to conduct a campus cleaning drive. Each department were given different areas. Students and staff including principal took part in the cleaning program.

3 days Enterprenership Awareness Camp was conducted by NSS Unit in association Amravati Maharashtra center for Enterpreneurship Development, Yavatmal, Students Welfare cell, SGBAU, Amravati and Training and Placement cell, JDIET, Yavatmal

Women Empowerment Workshop

                                                  Women Empowerment Workshop

 The empowerment of woman in all area is the call of the time. NSS unit constantly promotes such activities. A Women Empowerment Workshop   was conducted as part of woman empowerment. It was an               awareness class on Woman Safety with the support of Womens Grievance Cell of the Institute. In this Program students also presented a drama on Women harassment.

                                    Enginneer’s and Teacher’s Day Program

 Enginneer’s and Teacher’s Day Program  organized by NSS Unit of the Institute in collaboration with Rotary Club, Yavatmal in the college Campus attended by the faculty member of the college and Rotary Club members. On this occasion five best Teachers  from Yavatmal District were felicitated with  ‘Utkrusta Shikshak Puraskar’ by the hands of Dr. Mallinath Kalshetty, CEO Zillha Parishad, Yavatmal.

                                  NSS Orientation Program

Continuous orientation is the way to encourage the volunteers. Through these orientation sessions they get an idea about NSS and its objectives. The social activities carried out by NSS are introduced to volunteers in such sessions and are asked to plan their activity through brain storming sessions. Prof. S.T.Sangle guided the students and explained them the importance of National Service Scheme.
